T.E.A.M Discipleship
Overview of the T.E.A.M. Discipleship Process
Preaching the good news of Jesus, showing others where and how to receive God’s salvation from sin and its consequences, and helping believers progress from infancy to maturity — this is the mission of Christ’s church. Accomplishing this mission one life at a time requires intentional, well-organized, and progressively deeper training and experience in the ways of God.
At Athena Christian Church, we wish to offer a complete course of training in discipleship to those God entrusts to our congregation. To accomplish this goal, the leaders of our church, after careful study of how Christ and His disciples fulfilled their mission as described in the Bible, have developed and approved a progressive and thorough training process designed to present all the information and “hands on” training every person needs to become a mature, functioning, reproducing disciple in God’s kingdom. This process has been given the title “T.E.A.M. Discipleship,” a title selected for two reasons:
1. Helping someone reach maturity in Christ is truly a team effort that requires many helpers, teachers, and mentors.
2. Titles of the four parts or phases into which the training is organized create an acrostic.
T — Touching the Heart of God
E — Establishing the Life of the Disciple
A — Amplifying the Impact of our Mission
M — Mentoring the Next Generation
These four organizational phases are briefly outlined here. To simplify phrasing, only masculine pronouns (he/him/his/himself) are used with the understanding that everything applies to both men and women.
This document is a tool and will be modified as our understanding of God’s truth continues to grow and deepen.
