Fall is in the air and our Young Disciple group survived the Round up.

I would like to thank everyone who helped in the booth this year. It was pretty crazy at times, but we managed. I want to extend a special thank you to Val Calley. She has been the point person on the booth for several years. She told me before Round up that she was going to give it 5 more years. After Tuesday and Wednesday this year, I was waiting for her to say she was giving it two more days. Thank you Val for your dedication and help on making our youth fund raiser a big success!!

Brian Calley got the lead job on Friday and Saturday. He had a lot of the youth group members working. He told me that several customers commented on how good our service was and how nice it was to see the kids working together. Once again, great job everyone!!

Now that our fund raiser for the year is over, we are VERY well funded; it is time to do what Christ is calling us to do. “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” Matthew 28: 19-20

As you can see from our upcoming schedule, we have outreach events and service opportunities in the coming months. I am especially excited about our free youth movie night planned for October 24th. I will be handing out free tickets for the youth to give to their friends as an invite to the movie. I am also going to be placing fliers around town and at the area churches. Parents and adults are welcome to attend. The movie is To Save a Life. It is a PG 13 movie because it deals with the things our youth are struggling with everyday. I recommend the movie to anyone who is involved in the life of a teenager.

I know I say this quite often, but I am blessed to be working with such a wonderful group of kids. When I think of our youth group, I think of a fire that has burned down to just hot coals. If we add the fuel (learning of Christ love) and fan it a little (support of adults and other mentors) we will have a BLAZE that will change our community and the lives of teens in Athena. I am truly blessed God has allowed me to be a part of the process.
